How to Take ADDERALL XR
A single morning dose of ADDERALL XR has been demonstrated in clinical studies to significantly improve the three core symptoms of ADHD in children—inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity1—throughout the day. ADDERALL XR has been shown in clinical studies to decrease distractibility, improve attention span, and increase the ability of a child with ADHD to follow directions and complete tasks.2 ADDERALL XR has been shown to decrease impulsivity and hyperactivity.7
Continuing treatment with ADDERALL XR, in accordance with the ADHD treatment plan prescribed by your child's doctor, is just as important as beginning treatment. Learn more about building a successful ADHD treatment plan.
Your child's physician will prescribe ADDERALL XR to be taken by mouth once each day in the morning, but there are additional ways that the medicine can be taken.
- Capsules can be taken whole, or the capsule may be opened and the entire contents sprinkled on soft foods, such as apple sauce11
- If the sprinkle method is used, the soft food containing the beads should be consumed immediately and should not be chewed. Do not store for later use
ADDERALL XR may be taken with or without food.11 Do not take antacids while taking ADDERALL XR.
Make sure your child takes the dose as prescribed by your child's doctor. The doctor may adjust the dose he or she takes until symptoms are controlled with minimal side effects. From time to time, the doctor may stop treatment to check symptoms while your child is not taking the medication.
