If you feel your teen's ADHD symptoms are not improving with his or her current treatment, it may be time to ask a doctor about ADDERALL XR. Only your doctor can decide if ADDERALL XR is right for your teen. To learn more, see the ADHD Doctor Discussion Guide.
ADDERALL XR has been shown to be effective in treating the symptoms of ADHD. In fact, it is the #1-prescribed brand of ADHD medication.
In clinical studies, ADDERALL XR has been shown to:
- Increase attention span1
- Increase the ability to follow directions and complete tasks1
- Reduce distractibility1
- Decrease impulsive tendencies that may lead to risky behaviors
- Control hyperactivity and restlessness1
The active ingredient in ADDERALL XR has been used medically for nearly 70 years.12
ADDERALL XR offers convenient, once-daily dosing. ADDERALL XR is designed to work effectively for up to 12 hours.1,7 Just one daily dose of ADDERALL XR starts working quickly (1½ hours) and keeps working throughout the day.1,13
In contrast with shorter-acting treatments that need to be taken every few hours, once-daily ADDERALL XR may make it easier for teens to stay with their treatment schedule.13 It may also lessen the self-consciousness or embarrassment that some teens with ADHD feel when they have to take medication at school.
Dosing with ADDERALL XR
A single morning dose of ADDERALL XR has been demonstrated to significantly improve the three core symptoms of ADHD1—inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity—throughout the day.
Make sure your teen takes the dose as prescribed by his or her doctor. The doctor may adjust the dose until symptoms are controlled with minimal side effects. From time to time, the doctor may stop treatment to check symptoms while your teen is not taking the medication.
ADDERALL XR may be taken with or without food.14 Do not take antacids while taking ADDERALL XR. ADDERALL XR should not be taken by patients who have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) within the last 14 days.
